Our   Story

ThunderBots are a FIRST robotics team representing Spectrum Community School. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a nonprofit public charity designed to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology, and to motivate them to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math. Every year FIRST holds many international events that give students opportunities to come together, learn new skills, and compete at various levels.

Our school competed in the Canadian Pacific Regional for the second time, where we successfully made it through the qualifying rounds and were teamed with an alliance that made it to the semi finals. Our team for this year, was made of approximately 15 students from grades 9 to 12, four teacher mentors, and a growing number of community mentors and sponsors.

YEAR 1  -  2018

Our team started in November 2017.  In this first year, our school competed in the first Canadian Pacific Regional in our hometown of Victoria, BC. For our inaugural season, the team was 20 students, three teacher mentors and three community mentors.  In competition,  we were a part of an alliance that made it to the quarter finals and won the Judges Award for our team’s unique efforts, perseverance and spirit. We learned a lot in our first year and were excited about returning for a second year.
